The Atomic Bomb is a bomb that uses a uranium bullet to split an atom(an atom is the smallest particle in a chemical) which makes the explosion bigger. The first atomic bomb was dropped on the military base in Hiroshima wich was one of two military bases in Japan, Hiroshima had the biggest military base in Japan!
On July 16,1945 the first atomic bomb was detonated in a new Mexico desert , the explosion was as big as 18,000 tons of TNT. scientists figured out that the temperature of the explosion was three times hotter than the centre of the sun!
By the time the first atomic bomb was made, germany had already surrendered and the war in europe was over. Japan was defeated as well, but would not surrender.The U.S were thinking about an invasion of Japan.Army leaders figured that anywhere from 500,00 to 1000000 U.S and allied soldiers would die in an invasion.President Truman decided to drop the atomic bomb in stead.
On August 6, 1945 8:15 Colonel Paul Tibites was the pilot of the B-29 bomber the Enola Gay plane that dropped the little boy bomb on Hiroshima.

Despite witnessing the terrible destruction of the bomb on Hiroshima,Empeoror Hirohito and Japan still refused to surrender. Three days later,on August 9, 1945, another Atomic Bomb nicknamed Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. Again the devastation was horrible.
